You see a yard. We see clean, renewable energy.
Clean renewable energy is stored not far below the surface of the earth, but getting at it required a big investment – until now. LREC’s new EarthWI$E geothermal program provides a more affordable way to tap into that energy for home heating and cooling. Affordable because the underground geothermal loop system is installed by LREC and becomes part of the cooperative’s infrastructure, just like traditional poles and wire. The loops are installed using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technology. HDD has very little impact on lawn and landscaping, and can be installed in places other types of installation are not possible.
As a coop member and homeowner, you make a monthly payment based on the number of loops (tons) installed. The monthly loop payment will be fixed so your cost of geothermal energy won’t rise and fluctuate like other fuels or even electricity. Sometimes it is more advantageous to own the loop system outright, so LREC will install the loop system through direct sale. Federal tax credits and LREC rebates are also available to reduce the cost of the heap pump and mechanical system you own inside your home.
