Wellspring Renewable Energy

You can buy power generated by the wind. Wellspring Renewable Energy Program is available to our members in 100 kWh blocks for only $0.51 per block.

The wind energy for the program comes from nine giant turbines that generate 6 megawatts of electricity at Great River Energy's Chandler Hills Wind Farm. The turbines are located on the Buffalo Ridge in southwestern Minnesota.

The Chandler Hills Wind Farm was the first project. Since then, more wind generation has been built, with 6 MW of wind energy coming from a recently completed project located in Dodge Center, Minnesota, and another 6 MW from a wind project in Jackson County, Minnesota.

The Trimont Area Wind Farm in Jackson County, Minnesota's first commercial-scale, landowner-developed wind farm began producing power on November 29, 2005. PPM Energy, a unit of ScottishPower, built the 100-megawatt wind project in southwestern Minnesota.

Great River Energy currently purchases the output of four wind projects in Minnesota for a total of 118 megawatts of renewable energy, bringing the renewable content of Great River Energy's energy portfolio to approximately 4 percent.
