CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST (job description)
On-site in our Pelican Rapids, MN office, this specialist will be a member of our customer services team, responding to inquiries via phone, electronically, or in-person. Become proficient in responding to requests regarding electric energy usage, electric billing rates, energy conservation, and energy efficiency rebates. May also assist with communication related to account status and amounts due, autopay, E-billing, budget billing, and confidently responding to past due issues and actions. Documentation of all consultations with members in contact tracking system, including preparing and delivering any written follow up correspondence. Outside of utility services, the specialist will gain understanding to provide sales information about energy related products and services offered by the cooperative, such as off-peak programs, stand-by generators, solar panels, and other products that may arise.
Qualifications for the position include:
- Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to 2-3 years customer service experience.
- Ability to communicate in a professional, helpful, and courteous manner with customers and other visitors or callers.
- Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the desire for continuous learning and development.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.

SEASONAL SMALL ENGINE TECHNICIANS (job description)
Our energy services team takes our vision of guiding usage of energy wisely, to a different level. They offer products and services beyond standard electrical power lines. We are currently seeking candidates for full-time, seasonal, small engine technician positions.
These seasonal jobs, June – August (position may extend beyond August, if workload requires and candidate is available), will be a part of the energy services team, providing service to customers who have generators. Positions will partner, learn and execute installation, repair, and maintenance on generators or other products, in accordance with each customer’s service agreement. Preventive maintenance work involves a series of routine checks and actions to ensure optimal performance and longevity. This includes oil changes, filter replacements, coolant checks, battery maintenance, and electrical system inspections which are primarily performed outside. May have the opportunity to participate in the installation of ground mount solar arrays on member properties.
Qualifications for the position include:
- High school diploma or equivalent and any relevant applicable knowledge or experience.
- Intermediate computer proficiency, with ability to use Microsoft Office products including Outlook.
- Professional, helpful, and courteous written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with attention to detail.
- Capacity to work standard work hours, Monday – Friday 7:30AM – 4:00PM, and overtime as needed. Assistance will be expected during major outages.
- Must be 18yrs of age and able to pass a MN-DOT physical, due to the requirement to use power driven hoisting & loading apparatus’ and motor vehicle’s to load and transport equipment.
- Requires successful completion of a pre-employment screening which may include a physical examination, drug screening, background check, reference check, and motor vehicle record check as applicable to the position.
The pay range for this position will be $20.00 – $22.00 per hour.
JOURNEYMAN LINEWORKER (job description)
We are currently seeking candidates for a full-time Journeyman Lineworker position at our Pelican Rapids facility. Candidates must live within a 20min of the facility. Responsible for the overall safety of self, colleagues, and the public, when executing timely action required for construction, operation, and maintenance of structures, lines and equipment of the electrical distribution facilities driven to support and provide customers with safe & reliable service.
- Build overhead and underground electrical distribution systems within the appropriate specifications, guidelines and standards in support of reliable service to the customer.
- Construct 1, 2, and 3-phase lines including framing, setting poles, and stringing wire according to all specifications.
- Perform hot line work, as appropriate.
- Maintain the electrical distribution system to ensure its safety and reliability while minimizing any interruption of service.
- Perform tree trimming. Maintain street and security lights. Retrofit programs for overhead transformers.
- Restore power in a safe and timely manner.
- Analyze and assess outages, restore power in a safe and effective manner while communicating appropriately with customers.
Qualifications for the position include:
- Requires a licensed / certified journeyman lineworker, who has completed a recognized journeyman lineworker apprenticeship program.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License to safely execute operation of all types of equipment including bucket & digger trucks, cable plow and backhoe.
- Intermediate computer proficiency, with ability to use mobile devices and Microsoft Office products including Outlook.
- Professional, helpful, and courteous written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment.
- Apply knowledge of Rural Utility Services (RUS) construction specifications and the National Electric Safety Code electric terminology, specifications, and codes.
- Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Ability to work outdoors with great physical exertion, often in poor weather conditions. Frequently lift materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Occasionally lift items weighing up to 100 lbs. Shovel dirt, work around noisy equipment.
- Capacity to work standard work hours, Monday – Friday 7:30AM – 4:00PM, and overtime as needed. All employees are subject to call-out in the event of an emergency or other needed restoration of service. Position is required to be available to respond within 30min during a scheduled weekly on-call rotation, on average, every 6 weeks.
This position’s starting pay rate is $49.00 – $51.00 with the union rate for 2025 of $51.82 to be achieved upon completion of a training and onboarding period.
