Great River Energy (GRE) provides wholesale electric service to 28 distribution cooperatives in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Those member cooperatives distribute electricity to more than 645,000 member consumers – or about 1.7 million people.

The Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA) is a service organization for Minnesota’s electric utility cooperatives. MREA provides service and leadership including safety training, legislative research and lobbying, and industry education programs. A 14-member board representing electric co-ops across the state governs MREA.

Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) markets and delivers reliable, renewable, cost-based hydroelectric power and related services within a 15-state region of the central and western U.S. WAPA is one of four power marketing administrations within the U.S. Department of Energy whose role is to market and transmit electricity from multi-use water projects. The transmission system carries electricity from 57 power plants operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the International Boundary and Water Commission. Together, these plants have an installed capacity of 10,479 megawatts.
